SERVING GOD IS NOT A WEARISOME THING (Continued)

God’s vineyard is a place of rich reward and there is an immediate enjoyment of those rewards. There is none of us but delight in the taste of the grape. What a rich harvest it brings forth.
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost,” Romans 14:17.
“And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 13:52.
“And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 13:52.

But there is not only joy NOW for those who faithfully serve the Lord but there is a great treasure waiting for us in heaven.
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal,” Matthew 6:20.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” 1 Peter 1:3-4.
“And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away,” 1 Peter 5:4.

SERVING GOD IS NOT A WEARISOME THING (Continued)

We continue to examine this word “REST” which the Saviour uses to describe what those who serve Him enjoy.

Rest is found in bearing Christ’s yoke. He is there alongside us. “For we are labourers together with God,” 1 Corinthians 3:9.

Consider also:
God’s vineyard is a place of rich reward.
“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it,” Pro 10:22. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory,” 1 Samuel 2:8.

There is:

IMMEDIATE REWARDS HERE ON EARTH. John 15:11; 16:20, 22; Acts 8:8, 13:52, 15:3; 1 Peter 1:8. “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost,” Romans 14:17.

Having looked at the truth that God’s vineyard is a place of work and labour, we come now to the truth that:

SERVING GOD IS NOT A WEARISOME THING!

1. God’s vineyard is a place of joy.“Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased,” Psalm 4:7.

“And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease,” Isaiah 16:10. Both these verses link joy with labour in the vineyard.

Service for Christ is a blessed thing! Oh! what a kind and gentle Master the Saviour is!
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light,” Matthew 11:28-30.

Rest = ‘ease’, Luke 12:19; ‘refreshed’, 1 Cor 16:18, 2 Cor 7:13.

It is like heavenly rest, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them,” Revelation 14:13.
